Why is there a 2–3× spread inside each band?
- GSM: a 120 GSM bag contains ~50% more paper than an 80 GSM bag of the same size — paper is roughly half the bag's cost.
- Size: cost follows paper area; an Extra Large uses nearly double a Small's paper.
- Volume: setup amortizes across the run — unit prices step down visibly at roughly 5k / 25k / 100k thresholds.
- Print: each color adds a plate and station; full-coverage printing adds ink cost over spot logos.
- Paper market: kraft prices move with pulp and energy; quotes carry ~30-day validity for this reason.
Budgeting shortcuts that hold up
- Retail carry bag program (India): a mid-size printed flat handle bag at moderate volume typically budgets at ₹6–9 per bag delivered.
- Grocery checkout (India): plain SOS at volume typically budgets at ₹2.5–4 per bag.
- Imported branded mailers (DTC): landed cost typically runs 1.5–2× the FOB price once freight, clearance, and duty are added at LCL volumes; closer to 1.2–1.4× at FCL volumes.
